Package is showing Install Pending

You may realise when you populate the distribution point the package status is stuck in the Install Pending state for a very long time. Taking a closer look at the distmgr.log shows the below:-

The problem was because the Remote Differential Compression feature in Windows Server 2008 was not enabled. Go ahead and add that feature from the Server Manager console and then wait. Reviewing the distmgr.log shows that it now successfully processed the package.

Enjoy!!!

  1. Oh man… thanks a bunch for this entry! I was creating a secondary site and since I’ve created secondaries before, I did it without consulting Technet. Of course, I missed the first step that calls for enabing RDC. You really saved me a whole lot of heartache!

    Hi,

I have the same problem, but we have only 1 site, and only 1 servers. RDC feature is enabled, but the package is still not distributed to clients. Any ideas?
